Laundry tips

Practical methods for sorting, stain removal, drying and extending the life of your textiles

Sorting by color isn't enough — the temperature, detergent type and drying method determine how long your clothes last. A t-shirt consistently washed at 140 °F (60 °C) instead of 86 °F (30 °C) loses its shape twice as fast. These guides compile practical techniques — effective sorting, targeted stain removal, optimal drying, technical fabric care — based on textile manufacturer recommendations and GINETEX labeling standards. Each tip also explains when a laundromat is more suitable than a home machine, especially for large loads or textiles requiring professional drying.

FAQ

Should you use liquid or powder detergent?
Powder detergent is more effective on grease stains and white loads (contains bleaching agents). Liquid detergent is better for colors and low temperatures (86-104 °F / 30-40 °C). In Speed Queen laundromats, detergent is included and automatically dosed.
How do you remove a stain without damaging the fabric?
Act fast: blot (never rub) with cold water, then apply a stain remover suited to the stain type. Blood = cold water, red wine = salt + sparkling water, grease = dish soap. Always treat before machine washing.
Can white vinegar replace fabric softener?
Yes, 3.5 fl oz of white vinegar in the softener compartment softens laundry, neutralizes limescale and removes detergent residues. It's safe for the machine and more economical than commercial fabric softener.
